About Me
About Me
My Journey as a therapist started with my passion and an innate desire to work and connect with people. My feminist lens, which is rooted in my doctoral studies in gender, equity, and social justice education, as well as, my own struggles as an immigrant, middle-class woman in Canada have made me passionate to work with women and other marginalized groups such as, children, LGBTQ people, and people with different racial, religious, social, and class backgrounds.
I hold a strength-based approach in therapy which has its foundation in my experience working with my clients, some with formidable mental and social disadvantages; the experience has taught me to see my clients as strong agents with huge capabilities to manage their lives, overcome their struggles, and thrive.
I am a Registered Psychotherapist (RP) in the province of Ontario, as well as a general member in good standing of the Ontario Association of Mental Health Professionals (OAMHP). I hold B.A. and M.A. degrees both in Clinical Psychology from Allameh-Tabatabaei University and University of Tehran, respectively. I also hold a doctoral (Ph.D.) degree in Education Studies in the area of Gender, Equity, and Social justice from the University of Western Ontario (UWO).
I have several years experience of working in the mental health area and a vast theoretical knowledge of different approaches in psychotherapy. I have been trained in multiple modalities in psychotherapy including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), Couple Therapy including, The Gottman Method Approach in Transferring Relationships and Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT), Feminist Psychotherapy, Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), Solution-Focused/Brief Therapy, and Positive Parenting Program (Triple P Parenting).
